Geneva and CERN
Take your physics students to CERN to explore the world’s largest particle physics laboratory.
Geneva itself is a wonderful city is a dreamlike setting. However, the showstopper is CERN – the European Organisation for Nuclear Research. Step into this fascinating world of particle physics which is sure to engage and inspire. This is a once in a lifetime experience your students will never forget!
In addition to this, Geneva boasts many exciting attractions. We highly recommend a boat trip on Lake Geneva because it’s a wonderful way to take in the scenery. On the banks of this beautiful lake sits the Château de Chillon, a symbol of the area and an architectural jewel. The History of Science Museum is another fantastic attraction for science groups, where your students will gain insight into the city’s scientific past. Alternatively, draw your students in to world politics with a fascinating visit to the UN. Perhaps visit the the Council Chamber, where many important historical negotiations have taken place.

CERN – the European Organisation for Nuclear Research – is the world’s largest particle physics laboratory. At this respected research centre, physicists research what the universe is made of and how it works. Student groups can peak behind the scenes on a guided tour. Following a short film, the group will head to some of the ground level visit points which could be an experimental area or an accelerator. Groups are also able to explore CERN’s exhibition to engage with key questions such as where particles come from and how the Large Hadron Collider is operated.
This afternoon, perhaps head to the United Nations Office to engage your students with world politics. Tours vary depending on the meeting schedule, but the guides inform visitors about the current activities of the UN.
