The Business of Aviation
Manchester Airport is the global gateway to the north of England. Every year they handle around 19 million passengers, using over 60 airlines flying direct to around 200 destinations. There are approximately 19,000 people employed directly on the airport site but their growth is shared by the surrounding towns and the whole region. As well as their passenger operations they also have a cargo operation at which has shown significant growth in recent years. Where better to teach your students about the Business of Aviation than by looking at Manchester Airport. This is perfect for GCSE, BTEC and A level Business Studies and Travel & Tourism students.

- Manchester Airport as a Business
Both Business Studies and Travel and Tourism students can look at the structure of the organisation and who controls what, the partnerships, contracts and legislation surrounding the business and how hazards and risks are assessed. Alternatively they may want to look at how the passengers are managed and the procedures, strategies and policies that are in place. If the focus is on technology then students can be provided with an insight into the systems that are used, how they work and how they benefit the airport. For those more interested in customer service or handling passengers, again an insight will be provided as to how this is done in such a busy and stressful environment. For environmental information such as the effect of noise or carbon pollution, attention is paid to the impact this has on the aviation environment and how Manchester Airport deals with their public responsibilities.
Risk Assessments and Pre-visit worksheets and ideas are available to prepare students for this visit. Alternative tours for younger children are also available. Call our Education Specialist for further details.
